[[EventsButtons(putalivejournalnamehere)]] [[Events]] '''This is a place to post events!''' Just enter text as you would into the wiki. Try to use ''links'' to the pages associated with venues, etc. (so if you say "Local Music Scene" you should make that into a link, {{{["Local Music Scene"]}}}). This makes it easier for people to find out more information on the organization, etc. You can ''easily'' delete the event after posting it (if you make a mistake, etc). To include a picture you must link to the picture externally (meaning it has to be hosted on some other website). Then ''just paste in the url of the image in brackets''. So if the image is at {{{http://example.com/pict.jpg}}} you would put {{{[http://example.com/pict.jpg]}}}. Feel free to include a flyer/other photo. (Just be sure to type the information too!) Tips: Include the start and end dates/times, the cost (or note if free), a link to further information. Post a week (or more) in advance, if possible. Events are assumed to be open to the public unless otherwise noted. |

American Legion Oregon Boys State
Time: 11:40 AM (UTC) Location: University of Oregon
Describe event: HOME SCHOOLERS – DON’T MISS OUT ON AN OPPORTUNITY THIS SUMMER
The American Legion Oregon Boys State is “A Week to Shape A Lifetime” and among the most respected and selective educational programs of government instruction for high school students in the nation. It is a participatory program where each participant becomes a part of the operation of his local, county and state government.
At American Legion Oregon Boys State, participants are exposed to the rights and privileges, the duties and the responsibilities of a franchised citizen. The training is objective and practical with city, county and state governments operated by the students elected to the various offices. Activities include legislative sessions, court proceedings, law enforcement presentations, assemblies, bands, chorus and recreational programs.
Oregon Boys State is celebrating its 74th session this coming June, 20th-26th. Lecturers who bring their skills to Boys State include the Oregon Secretary of State, the Chief Justice of the Oregon Supreme Court, the Attorney General, the State Treasurer, the Labor Commissioner, State Senators and Representatives, County Commissioners, County Clerks, Mayors, Law Enforcement officials, Lawyers and Lobbyists. The students receive a quality education.
High school juniors are selected by local American Legion posts to attend the program. In most cases, expenses associated with attending this program are paid by a sponsoring American Legion post, a local business or another community-based organization. The cost of sending a student to American Legion Oregon Boys State for the week is $275.00. It is hosted on the grounds of the University of Oregon in Eugene in mid-June each year.
Eligibility requirements: Be a legal resident of the state of Oregon, respect and be willing to salute the American Flag, have completed his junior year of high school and at least 16 years of age.
Please check out our website: www.alorboysstate.org. For more information call or email the Boys State Chairman, Don Epperson at: donepperson@comcast.net 541-928-8032
